Carrie R. Shoultes was born at Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York on January 31, 1888. She was the first born child of Charles Henry Shoultes (10Aug1863-11Oct1934) and Henrietta E. Zimmer (9Oct1861-25Jun1952) and grew up on the Shoultes farm in East Newark. Her sibling brother was Arthur William (14Apr1890-11Apr1948) who married Lulu May Westcott.

Carrie Shoultes attended the local schools as a youth, but the extent of her education is not known. The family was very photogenic and several pictures of Carrie and her brother Arthur, taken as children, are in the possession of family members. The researcher has obtained copies of these pictures.

The family remembers that Carrie R. Daniels united in marriage with Fenton Daniels of Newark Valley, New York. The genealogy of the Daniels family and the story of their married life is not known at the time of this writing. There is record of one son, Leslie Edward Daniels (8May1909-3May1975).

Carrie R. Daniels died on April 6, 1949 at the age of 61 years. The exact cause of her death is not known. The April 14, 1949 edition of the OWEGO GAZETTE recorded her life as follows:

Mrs. Carrie S. Daniels, wife of Fenton Daniels, died suddenly early Wednesday morning, April 6, at her home in Whig Street, Newark Valley, aged 61 years. Her funeral was held on Saturday afternoon at the MacPherson Funeral Home at Newark Valley, the Rev. William E. Elwood officiating. The burial was in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley.

Mrs. Daniels was a daughter of Charles and Henrietta (Zimmer) Shoultes, and was born on January 30, 1888, at East Newark. She was a member of the East Newark Methodist Church during its existence and of Gem Rebekah Lodge, of Newark Valley.

Besides her husband, she leaves one son, Leslie Daniels, of Newark Valley; her mother, Mrs. Henrietta Shoultes, also of that village, and two granddaughters.

A note of remembrance was received from Jean Calverley, a former resident of Newark Valley now living in Birmingham, Alabama. She writes:

Fenton Daniels lived at our home at one time after Carrie died, probably about 1948-49 but don't remember why he did. Dad kept his team of horses for sometime and my brother and I use(d) to ride them. Carrie was a little tiny woman and I always thought she was like a miniature lady.

It is believed she is buried with her husband in Hope Cemetery, in the village of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York.
