Catherine Zeh was born on June 28, 1845 at Bern (Albany County), New York. She was the daughter of Christopher Zeh (????-????) and Hannah Bakeman (1814-1890) who moved to the Newark Valley settlement when she was a young girl. Details concerning the childhood of Catherine Zeh are not known. The Zeh family became quite prominent in Tioga County during the later part of the 19th century. Catherine Zeh united in marriage with George Jacob Shoultes (1839-1904) on February 16, 1865 at the Methodist Episcopal Church of East Newark. George Jacob Shoultes was born on June 20, 1839 at Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York, the ninth child of Jacob Ira Shoultes (1798-1856) and Elizabeth Isabell Leip (1798-1872). Jacob Shoultes came from Albany County and settled in the East Newark regions in 1825. George and Catherine Shoultes established a small farm near the site of his grandfather Johan Jacob Scholtes's (1761-1852) land purchase on Lot #55. They raised a family of two children.
Catherine Zeh Shoultes died on March 13, 1891 at the age of 45 years.
The cause of her death is not known. She is buried with her husband in the
East Newark Cemetery near the village of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New
