Elizabeth Baird was born on May 5, 1860 near the village of Caledonia, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of James Baird (1820-1879) and Mary McCartney (1824-1910). James and Mary Baird were born in Scotland and came to this country during the 1850s. Elizabeth Baird united in marriage with Seymour Shoultes (1860-1924) of Fountain Prairie, Wisconsin on February 22, 1887 at Caledonia, Wisconsin. Seymour Shoultes was born on January 22, 1860, the son of Elias Shoultes (1835-1862) and Rhuhanna McElroy (1837-1892). Seymour's father died from disease as a soldier of the Civil War in 1862 and Seymour was raised in an orphanage. After reaching the age of adulthood, he ventured to the Washington Territory and established a farm plot near the village of Marysville (Snohomish County). Following their marriage, Seymour and Elizabeth Shoultes returned to Marysville and raised a family of five children. This branch of the Shoultes family is considered to be one of the early pioneer families to this area. The SHOULTES name appears prominently on local streets, housing districts, schools, and churches. Descendants of Seymour Shoultes still live in this area although the Shoultes name no longer exists. The family farm was finally sold in 1993 after nearly 100 years in the Shoultes family.
Elizabeth Baird died on April 24, 1924 at the age of 64 years. She is
buried with her husband in the village cemetery located at Marysville (Snohomish
County), Wisconsin. |
