Ella C. Shoultes was born near the village of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York on March 18, 1868. She was the seventh child of Ira Jacob Shoultes (1827-1905) and Lana Snapp (1830-1894) and was born on the Shoultes farm located in the East Newark regions. Ella Shoultes attended the local schools during her youth, as documented by the United States Census Report of 1880 for Tioga County. The extent of her education is not known at the time of this writing. Ella C. Shoultes united in marriage with Frank Westfall (1864-????) around the year 1890. It is believed they lived their married life in the East Newark region. There were two children born to them; Lena (1893-1972) and Clark (????-????). Lena C. Shoultes Westfall died from a stroke on September 12, 1944 at the age of 76. Her obituary appeared in the September 14, 1944 edition of the OWEGO GAZETTE and read as follows: MRS. FRANK WESTFALL Mrs. Ella Westfall, wife of Frank Westfall, died early on Tuesday morning, Sept. 12 at her home at Newark Valley, after a short illness, aged 76 years. Her funeral will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Richards Funeral Home at Newark Valley. The Rev. Floyd E. Richards, of Newark Valley, will officiate. The burial will be in the East Newark Cemetery. Mrs. Westfall was a daughter of Ira and Lana (Snapp) Shoultes, and was born on March 18, 1868 in the town of Newark Valley where she had lived all her life. She was a member of the Newark Valley Methodist Church and the Newark Valley Grange. Besides her husband, she leaves one daughter, Miss Lena Westfall, and one son, Clark Westfall of Newark Valley, and several nieces and nephews.

Shoultes and is buried with her husband in the East Newark Cemetery located
near the village of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York. |
