Emma D. Shoultes was born on the family homestead located in the eastern farm regions of Newark Valley (Tioga County), New York on August 16, 1856. She was the second child of Ira Jacob Shoultes (21Nov1827-18Apr1905) and Lana Snapp (14Aug1830-11Aug1894).

Her siblings were:
1. Jacob Henry (2Sep1849-5Nov1851);
2. Frederick Charles (3May1858-23Apr1930) who married Mary L. Dodge;
3. Nancy (17Nov1859-6Jul1916) who married John Niefer;
4. Charles Henry (10Aug1863-11Oct1934) who married Henrietta E. Zimmer;
5. Mary Elizabeth (18Dec1866-11Nov1943) who married Henry W. Stevens;
6. Ella C. (18Mar1868-12Sep1944) who married Frank Westfall;
7. Chauncey (12Aug1870-12Apr1927) who married 1) Kate Zimmer and 2) Mary Brick.

Emma attended the local schools and grew to adulthood as a member of the Shoultes family. The extent of her education or circumstances surrounding her childhood are not known at the time of this writing.

Records document that Emma D. Shoultes married Alonzo Baldwin of Lisle (Broome County), New York. The Baldwin genealogy is not known nor is the date and location of their marriage. Documents indicate that twin sons Herman (1877-1908) and Bert (1877-1935) were born to them. There may have been other children. It is believed that the Baldwin home was located near the village of Lisle (Broome County), New York where they lived their married life.

When her father published his last Will and Testament in 1898, Emma was mentioned as follows:

Third, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter, Emma Baldwin, one undivided fourth of all my household goods, and also one hundred dollars in money.

Emma D. Shoultes Baldwin died of heart disease on November 4, 1924 at the age of 68 years. It is believed that she is buried with her husband in the village of Lisle, New York.
